How long does it take to get my license? ----------- Can I apply for a temporary permit?

TIME : Licensure generally takes 3 weeks once all documents are received

  • It takes 2-3 weeks for DCI to process fingerprint cards (once received by the WSBN)

  • Processing the application takes 5-7 days (longer if there is criminal history)

  • The most common reason for delay is not providing the requested documents. Review your Message Center (in the Nurse Portal) to see what additional documents are needed. Click HERE to access the Nurse Portal.

TEMPORARY PERMIT

  • A one time temporary permit can be given for up to 90 days (for LPN/RN) and 120 days (for CNA).

  • Complete application (the cost is $25). Either:

Select Temporary Permit on the initial application; or

Complete a temporary application (found under Apply for License)

  • Am I eligible?

    • Applicants with criminal history in the past 5 years are not eligible for a temporary permit

    • The temporary permit will expire if the applicant fails their licensing/certification exam

How do I... Check on my application? ------------ See if my license has been issued?

Log into your nurse portal HERE

  • Check to see if license has been issued:

Log into the Nurse Portal and click "view status" on the application that you submitted.

  • The nurse portal shows that my application has items that are pending. What does that mean?:

Once an application has been submitted online, the items that relate to the application will show as pending until the application and documents have been received and reviewed by WSBN staff. If you are missing items a message is sent to the message center in your nurse portal account listing the items that are needed. Read the messages in the Message Center (left-hand side of the portal) to see what additional documents are needed.

----- Nurse Licensure Compact Informat ion -----

The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) allows a nurse (LPN/RN) to hold one multistate license to practice in their home state and other compact states. All initial Wyoming applications are vetted for a multistate license. Applicants must meet uniform licensure requirements (ULRs) to be issued a multistate license. Multistate licenses are issued by the primary state of residence (PSOR). If a nurse permanently relocates to another compact state, he/she must apply for a license in the new compact state. Visit National Council of State Boards of Nursing ( NCSBN ) for more information and a map of current compact states.

----- Military Educated Applicants -----

Wyoming allows an individual who has graduated from an approved military course (listed in the NCSBN Analysis – Military) within the 5 yrs prior to application, to apply and sit for the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) NCLEX . In addition to completing an application, the Military Verification form must be completed and submitted as part of the application process.

----- Foreign Educated Applicants -----

Foreign educated applicants must submit a Foreign Educated Application and meet the following criteria:

    • Graduate from an international education program (approved by the authorized accrediting body in the applicable country and verified by an independent credential review agency). See Accepted Credentialing Agencies below.

    • Provide verification of nursing licensure status and/or authorization to practice, if applicable, from country of origin.
